Online portal ti.alter.tax

Tax Investigation Online

Most IRS problems show up as a notice, levy, or garnishment — after penalties have already grown. This portal is how you see what the IRS actually has on file before you commit to a resolution plan.

What this is

A file review, not a sales call

This is not a phone estimate and not automatic IRS representation. It is a structured look at your IRS records — filings, assessments, balances, and collection indicators — reviewed by Enrolled Agents.

Start online

Create a case at ti.alter.tax. The first step is your email — no IRS records are accessed yet.

Authorize Form 8821

Form 8821 is Tax Information Authorization. It lets our licensed team view IRS records you already have on file. It is not Form 2848 and does not let us speak to the IRS for you.

Review your IRS file

We retrieve transcripts through official IRS channels. Enrolled Agents review the file so you can see balances, missing returns, and collection risk in one place.

What the review looks at

IRS data lives in separate systems. The portal pulls those pieces together so you are not making decisions from a single notice or a partial transcript.

Unfiled or missing returns

Years the IRS shows as not filed, or returns that never posted correctly.

Assessed balances

Tax, penalties, and interest the IRS claims you owe — not a guess from a sales call.

Collection and levy risk

Whether the account looks quiet, or whether notices and enforcement are already in motion.

Deadlines that still matter

Collection statutes and other timelines that can change what options are still open.

Questions people ask before they start

Is this the same as hiring Alter Tax to resolve my debt?
No. Tax Investigation Online is an IRS file review. After the report, you can do nothing, handle it yourself, or ask us about resolution. Representation would require a separate agreement.
Will Form 8821 trigger an audit or collections?
No. Form 8821 only authorizes licensed professionals to view records that already exist. It does not give the IRS new information and does not change your account status.
What if I already started a case?
Go to ti.alter.tax/status and sign in with the email you used to start.

Prefer to talk first? Contact the office — the portal is optional.

The investigation runs at ti.alter.tax. Nothing is sent to the IRS until you complete authorization in that flow.
